Research Manager

Team Heart is a non-governmental international organization seeking to address the burden of cardiovascular disease in Rwanda through early prevention and screening, expanding access to care through a collaborative data driven approach, improvement of infrastructure and facilities, skill transfer, and access to essential cardiac medications and supplies for all. Team Heart has over 17 years of experience providing cardiac care including surgery to the most vulnerable Rwandans while also building the capacity of Rwanda’s health system and providers to expand access to quality cardiac care around Rwanda.
Team Heart is thus looking for an enthusiastic team player to lead its research program while contributing to a data-driven approach to care.

 

Position Responsibilities

Research management

  • Develop and implement research protocols including supporting M&E
  • Contribute to the design and performs literature reviews and provides syntheses and critical appraisal of existing evidence and develops summaries
  • Apply quantitative and/or qualitative research methodologies to the collection, analysis and interpretation of study data
  • Design and implements health needs assessments in partnership with team
  • Prepare presentations, proposals and abstracts, when indicated
  • Review and synthesize research results, as background for the preparation of grant applications and for the development of a curriculum
  • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with staff and with external partners
  • Monitor the progress of research activities; develop timeline and track and maintain records of research activities and prepares reports
  • Actively participate in grant writing and be involved in searching grant writing opportunities to support ongoing work and career development.
  • Support interim research assistants on projects
  • Promote inclusion of Rwandan researchers for all projects
  • Develop guides for best standards in research and promote for all projects and participant researchers
  • Perform any other responsibilities as needed
  • Maintain tracking in MONDAY.com
  • Promote and maintain a shared data bank in google folder

 

Research program management

  • Assist in the design of research project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders, volunteer team and ensuring technical feasibility
  • Assist in the development planning, and implementation of research projects
  • Assist in logistical planning for the screening of visiting and local teams relevant to grant and research
  • Identify, track, organize, attend and participate in stakeholder meetings relating to research when possible. Add to Monday.com and share with team at large
  • Ensure that all projects adhere to timeline, within the scope of work and budget
  • Monitor and report on research project progress weekly in leadership calls
  • Perform other related duties as needed to create team success
  • Work with the team, Rwandan medical experts, nurse-coordinator, and key volunteers to develop the best method to collect data for evidenced-based follow-up

 

 

Qualifications and Skills
  • Minimum of a master’s degree in public health, social sciences or related discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years of overall relevant professional experience, research background an asset
  • Skill in conducting literature reviews, syntheses, and critical appraisals, sufficient to provide syntheses and critical appraisal of existing evidence, and to develop summaries
  • Knowledge and experience with quantitative and/or qualitative research methodology
  • Skill and expertise in developing concept notes proposals, reports, and presentations
  • Planning, organizing and initiative to work efficiently under conditions of multiple deadlines
  • A multi-tasker with the ability to approach and manage assignments in a fast-paced environment
  • A self-starter attitude and collegiality and effort to collaboration and network is critical
  • Office computer and data management skills with proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint); Redcap and STATA analysis
  • A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision making
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of Team Heart
  • Ability to communicate in English and Kinyarwanda
  • Willingness to be part of a large team, located on multiple continents and communicating

Reporting to: Country Director
Contract type: 1 year/ Full-time renewable based on projects
