About the Umuzi Program

The UMUZI Program is a transformative educational initiative led by Born2Serve, designed to identify and empower high-performing students from Rwanda’s 12-Year Basic Education (12YBE) system, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Through school fees support, structured English and ICT training, mentorship, professional development, and club programming, UMUZI equips students with the tools to thrive academically and beyond.

Position Summary

Born2Serve is seeking a visionary, detail-oriented, and mission-driven Program Manager to lead and grow the UMUZI Program. The Program Manager will oversee all aspects of program design, implementation, stakeholder engagement, monitoring and evaluation, and team leadership. This role is ideal for someone with strong experience and passion in educational leadership, youth empowerment, and program management—someone who thrives in both strategic and hands-on roles.

 

Key Responsibilities 

Strategic Leadership & Program Oversight
  • Lead the strategic planning and execution of all UMUZI program components
  • Coordinate activities across UMUZI’s core pillars: financial support, English/ICT training, mentorship, and student club initiatives
  • Align program development with Born2Serve’s mission and Rwanda’s national education goals
  • Oversee the completion of UMUZI’s formal registration as a local organization under Rwandan law

 

Team & Operations Management

  • Supervise and support a multidisciplinary team including trainers, fellows, mentors, volunteers, and administrative staff
  • Manage recruitment, onboarding, and continuous professional development for team members
  • Manage recruitment along with B2S members of new cohorts of students. Oversee daily operations and logistics at the UMUZI Learning center
  • Ensure consistent and impactful communication of UMUZI activities via social media

 

Partnerships & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with schools, iDebate Rwanda, government officials, and key education stakeholders.
  • Act as the main liaison between Born2Serve and external partners, donors, and the broader community.
  • Represent the program at public events and education forums.

 

Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning

  • Design and implement systems to track student progress, training outcomes, and alumni engagement.
  • Lead quarterly and annual reporting using program data to inform improvements
  • Integrate feedback from students, mentors, and schools into program refinement.

 

Budget & Resource Management

  • Collaborate with the finance team to plan and manage program budgets.
  • Identify funding needs and contribute to fundraising efforts, including proposal development.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in program management, ideally in education, youth development, or the non-profit sector. (Early-career professionals with strong leadership potential are also encouraged to apply.)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects involving multiple stakeholders and meet deadlines.
  • Strong leadership, coordination, and team-building skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Experience using monitoring and evaluation systems and making data-informed decisions.
  • Deep commitment to educational equity and youth empowerment.
